3 Tips For Moving To A New Home Within The Same City

While moving to a brand new city, state, or country can be a huge undertaking, even moving within the same city can be stressful, too. Regardless of where you’re moving to, you have to pack up your current home, unpack in your new home, and deal with closing down services at one house and setting them up in another. But luckily, there are some ways that you can make your local move a little easier to manage.

To help you see how this can be done, here are three tips for moving to a new home within the same city.

You Should Still Pare Down

Having fewer items to pack and move is going to make your move much easier, even if you’re just moving to a new neighborhood. So while you might not have planned on really paring down for this move, Rob Rimeris, a contributor to LifeHack.org, recommends that you still pare down as much as you can.

When decluttering your home before packing, you should aim to get rid of anything that you haven’t used in about a year. By following this guideline, most anything you get rid of or donate won’t be missed since you really haven’t used it in a while anyway.

Pack In What You Have

To pack for a move, many people will try to get as many cardboard boxes as they can to pack up their belongings. And while this idea will definitely work, you may find that it’s much easier and less stressful to simply pack in what you already have.

Since you’ll be having to move things like your luggage, laundry brackets, garbage cans, reusable shopping bags, and other items anyway, Ethan Greenfield, a contributor to Moving.tips, recommends that you just load these containers up with your belongings instead of getting a lot of extra boxes or containers. Since your belongings won’t be in these containers for long, it often makes more sense to just use these other options.

Consider If You Really Need A Moving Truck

Although making multiple trips to move from one home to another may not be ideal, if you’re trying to save money with your move, ApartmentGuide.com suggests potentially skipping the moving truck. If you or a friend has a truck or a van, you will likely still be able to fit all of your items in that vehicle, even if it takes you a few more trips to get everything from one location to the other.

If you’re going to be moving to a new house in your same city, consider using the tips mentioned above to make your local move a bit easier on you and your family.
