Artistic Business Pursuits: Selling Yourself as a Music Instructor

Sometimes it’s hard to be an artist and a business person at the same time. However, there are a few ways that you can do this that makes sense when it comes to picking a lifestyle. For example, you can sell yourself as a music instructor. This means you have to be savvy about money, but you can still enjoy the fact that you are playing music or instructing someone to become a better performer themselves.

Combining these two ideas, though, there are some hurdles that you have to jump over. To be a music instructor, it is very likely that you need to get the right piano as an instructional tool. Then, there is learning to advertise yourself online as a competitor to other music instructors. And then finally, you always have to look for a blue ocean strategy. If you plan on making money in the long run, you have to know how to create a business plan that makes sense altogether, not just in a way that appeals to you psychologically.

Get the Right Piano

As a music instructor, you will probably have some Association with a piano. Even if you don’t teach piano yourself, having this instrument in your possession shows you to be more of a consummate professional. You don’t necessarily have to buy a piano either. There are plenty of different places that you can rent a piano that is well above what you would be able to afford outright. Renting the instrument in this way gives you a much quicker path to financial success than if you had to wait and try and buy it for the full price right away.

Learn To Advertise Yourself Online

Learning to advertise yourself online is a skill. Particularly if you are a music instructor, there are many other people out there competing for the same space. Because of this, you need to learn how to present your message compellingly online. Regardless if you are a music instructor or any kind of business person, sometimes the presentation is even more important than your skill at what you’re selling. If you can’t do the business part, then find someone to partner with who can.

Looking for the Blue Ocean Strategy

Finally, it’s worth looking into the blue ocean strategy. This goes along with the previous statements about being competitive. The blue ocean strategy suggests that not only should you look at being the best at what you do, you should also look at doing something different. If your competitors are high end, you go low end. If your competitors are about speed, make your advertisements about depth. The more comparative value you have, the better chance you will succeed in long and short term estimates.
