How to Design a Website if You’re Just Starting: A Beginner’s Guide

Setting up a website seems scary and difficult. Learning how to use computer languages like HTML and CSS isn’t easy. The truth is that building a website isn’t that difficult. Anyone who wants to build a website for a business can start one right away. If these computer languages are difficult, there are alternatives. Website builders can offer hosting, visual editing, and offer a domain name. There’s no need to learn computer languages. If using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint is easy, these website builders will feel the same. However, for those who don’t have time to deal with web development and design nuances, a professional web design company is always an option. With the aid of experts, it’s easier to get things done.

Easy steps to get started

The first step in the process is to make a plan for the website’s structure and content. Designing a website starts by understanding what goes into it and how it gets arranged. Identifying the information that appears first is also crucial. Not everyone has time to go through the entire page. They will most likely look at the home page and skip the rest. If there are important announcements like upcoming promotions, they should appear on the home page.

The next step is to look at the aesthetic aspect of web design. It includes the theme, color scheme, typography, and other visual elements. They need to come together to have a more fascinating and appealing website. These decisions will depend on the target audiences and the nature of the business. The goal is to remain professional despite the creative themes chosen. The website is part of the marketing efforts. When people see that the website matches them, they will be more likely to buy what the business offers.

For beginners who have no idea about designing a website, there are existing websites that might offer some ideas and inspiration. They’re worth looking at and drawing potential designs from.

Choose a website builder

Most beginners don’t want to learn difficult computer languages since they’re too technical. Using a website builder is an excellent alternative. Some options provide a complete package. Signing up would provide the business a template, editor, domain name, email address, and hosting. Customer support is also available from the chosen website builder. The difficult aspects of creating a website will no longer be an issue since the website builder will deal with them. Some web builders are available for free, but the services and features have limits. To avail of the premium services, there’s a need to pay a specific amount per month. However, given the features offered, the price is reasonable enough. Some of them are even a slow $8 per month.

There are pros and cons to this option. It’s very easy to use, and there’s no need to download additional software. Even those who don’t have technical knowledge can use the web builder. The provider will also ensure security and offer updates. The predefined design templates are easy to use, and there are plenty of choices available. However, the extra features come with additional pay. The web builder isn’t as flexible as a website created from scratch. Complicated projects and databases won’t work with web builders.

Some design tips

A white background is the typical choice for beginners and even for more complex websites. It’s a safe color and can work with other colors easily. Although others try to experiment with colorful backgrounds, it’s quite risky if not done well. The primary colors on the website should be relevant to the brand. If the business uses red in product labels and packaging or is the primary color on the logo, the website should reflect the same. Branding consistency helps.

Minimalism is still an ideal design option for websites. Leave space for white noise to avoid overwhelming visitors to the page. Reduce the content by eliminating the ones that aren’t too important. If not, they can get organized through tabs, so only those who want to receive specific details can view them. For fonts, professional-looking fonts should be a priority. It might seem unnecessary to be too particular with fonts, but they matter. Limiting the font style used is also important. It’s confusing and even difficult to read if there are too many fonts used on the same page.

A professional web design company will always be an option for those who don’t want to go through these details. However, there’s nothing wrong with learning how to design a website.
