4 Things to Consider Before Renovating Your Bathroom

Whether you plan on selling your home soon, or you envision staying in your home for years to come, a bathroom renovation can add equity while also increasing your home’s overall functionality. Of course, a bathroom remodeling project typically ends up being a lot bigger than most people expect. Therefore, planning is essential to make sure you avoid pitfalls and feel good about your renovation. Here are some considerations to keep in mind.

Think About The Layout

The layout of your bathroom is going to determine its usability. If only one person will need it at a time, the layout isn’t a huge deal. However, if it’s for a master suite or another shared area, you probably need to think about how multiple people can most effectively use the space.

Regardless of how many people will use the room at once, the layout will also impact how large the space feels and how much wasted space there is. When coming up with different layouts, think about whether you want a walk-in shower, a separate tub, a shower/tub combo, or some other solution. Also consider your need for a double vanity and other aspects.

Choose The Right Flooring

The flooring you lay down in your bathroom will need to be waterproof and durable. Even for a guest room bathroom, which may not experience a lot of foot traffic, you will want a floor type that will hold up to wet feet, spills, and even leaks. Tile has been a popular choice for generations, although wood is becoming a trend in many stylish new homes.

If you want the look of wood without its susceptibility to water stains and mold, consider a vinyl alternative or even wood-look porcelain floors. When laying the floors, consider the possibility of heated floors, too.

Opt for More Storage Space

While everyone’s needs are different, bathroom storage is always essential. From makeup and toiletries to towels and even clothing, you’ll want to think about everything you’re putting into your bathroom to ensure nothing ends up piled on the countertops or overflowing into the hall or bedroom.

The storage space should include shelving, drawers, and racks to hang robes and towels. Less common areas, such as the wall above the toilet, might prove ideal for storage if you choose creative designs that make the most of every inch of space.

Upgrade Your Plumbing

While you might not see your plumbing, upgrading it will prove very worthwhile during a bathroom renovation. By upgrading to new plumbing, you can take advantage of energy-saving options that will ultimately save you money while helping the environment. Water-saving faucets, shower heads, toilets, and other aspects should be considered for your remodel.

Renovating your bathroom can ultimately help you feel more secure and comfortable in your home. By selecting new upgrades to maximize your space and money, you can enjoy a luxurious spa feel at home, which will help you start your day better and let you relax at night.
