Scott Tominaga – How to Get Into The World of Finance

The world of finance is one which is attractive to a great many young people and there are a number of ways in which you can get into this world, depending on what it is that you wish to do. Scott Tominaga is a man with a wealth of experience in finance and throughout his career he has worked within banking, personal finance, stock trading and he is currently a financial advice for personal accounts. We had a great chat with Scott about the world of finance and where he thinks it is heading amongst other things but most importantly we got his advice and opinion on how you can break into the world of finance.

Trading

If you fancy yourself as a stock trader then you will be pleased to know that in many cases you do not need to have any prior qualifications. A great number of trading organizations will hire people fresh out of college, or in some cases high school, as long as they have what it takes. In order to gain an internship at a stock trading company you will need to have a clear understanding of the market and you will also need to show that you have the potential to reach the top. For anyone looking to work for a bankers trading arm you will need to have a high level of education such as degree in economics.

Technology

Financial technology is probably one of the fastest growing sectors of finance and now is a great time for you to get involved. There are two main ways in which you can find a position in fintech, the first is to create something great and begin your own company, the second is to get close to something great and ride the wave. If you have knowledge of finance and you love tech then you should start applying to start-ups and see if you can get yourself a position with them.

Banking

In the past many of the banks had colleges which you could go to once you had finished high school but unfortunately many of these institutions no longer exist. The best way to get started in banking then is to go in at entry level as a clerk, perhaps even whilst you study, in order to get an understanding of how things work. Another option for you if you wish to go into leadership within the bank is to first complete your degree in economics or maths, and then use that to get yourself on one of the graduate programs which many of the banks offer. When you do things this way you have a much greater chance of climbing the career ladder to the position which you have set your sights on.

The keys to getting into finance is to know what your path looks like and what you need to do first, in order to get yourself onto that path.
